This concept is mainly from Wittgenstein. The basic premise is simply that you use language to communicate to others and yourself. Before you can think about something it is 'translated' into your language.
Language is our vocabulary of concepts. You cannot conceptualise something that you do not have the language for. This obviously leads to some intriguing cultural misunderstandings, and may also help to explain why some people just don't seem to 'get' what you are talking about. Perhaps their language is such that they cannot understand what you are talking about!
The basic aim of the continual development programme is to increase the breadth of language and number of concepts available to Dave and thus to increase the number of things he can understand and make connections between.
