The wheel of life is a simple tool that is designed to let you evaluate your life and quickly communicate your perceived status in all the major areas of your life
All you do is selct eight categories of your life such as partner, career, environment, friends and family, etc and rate each one on a scale of one to ten. Then just fill in the levels on the wheel and someone can tell at a glance where it is possible to make the greatest positive impact on your life.
Dave's wheel of life as before Christmas is on the right. You can see that the key bits I am unhappy with are all related to my career. To help improve the environment aspect (that Sarah and myself both socred low on) we are moving house.
In addition I have realised that I have to change careers to feel happier, and this is something that I am now [Feb-2004] actively pursuing.
The wheel of life looks so simplistic that it can't have an impact, but I have found the impact to be profound and deep, because it has made me realise that my feeling of general malaise can be overcome and now I know which parts of my life to change to do this.
Of course the wheel of life has its detractors too example and is no substitute for a full look at your life, but as a first step to examine where you are I think it's very useful.
